The film follows Georges Duroy (played by Robert Pattinson), a charming but penniless young man who befriends Charles Forestier (played by Luke Evans), a wealthy and influential journalist. Through Forestier's connections, Duroy meets Madeleine Smith (played by Michelle Williams), Forestier's wife, and becomes infatuated with her. As Duroy climbs the social ladder, he engages in romantic conquests and strategic marriages, ultimately becoming a powerful and wealthy man.
