((full)) — Bryolith

1. What is a Bryolith? A bryolith is a type of nodule or oncoid formed by the encrusting growth of bryozoans (specifically, cheilostome or cyclostome bryozoans) around a central nucleus. Unlike purely inorganic concretions, bryoliths are biogenic — their rounded, often asymmetric shape results from the organism’s growth responding to frequent movement.
