Reconnecting Practicing Hygienists with the Nation's Leading Educators and Researchers.

The European Social Survey (ESS) Portal provides harmonized cross-national survey data. This paper demonstrates a full analytical workflow using the ESS Portal’s API and R package essurvey . We analyze trends in immigration attitudes across 10 countries over six rounds. Results show a significant polarization post-2015, with education level emerging as the strongest moderator. We conclude with recommendations for secondary data users.

The ESS Portal enables robust cross-temporal analysis. Future work should integrate ESS with Eurostat regional data.

The ESS Portal (europeansocialsurvey.org) offers free access to high-quality data. However, many researchers underutilize its batch downloading and weighting features. This paper aims to (1) document a reproducible workflow, (2) test the effect of economic insecurity on immigration opposition, and (3) provide code for replication.
