UniFi OS is a containerized marvel. It runs the Network app, Protect (cameras), Access (door locks), Talk (VoIP), and Connect (displays) all on one kernel. On paper, this is the ultimate SDN (Software Defined Network). In practice, it created a new problem:
Because Ubiquiti is a hardware company that pretends to be a software company. Their margins come from selling you the next Access Point, not the license. The deep critique here is that Ubiquiti software has become a solution looking for problems. The "single pane of glass" is now a crowded storefront. While Cisco and Aruba focus on niche enterprise features (VRF-lite, EVPN-VXLAN), Ubiquiti is busy making your router display a QR code for a doorbell camera.
