But after watching the film (and listening to the album on loop), I’m left with a bittersweet feeling. Here is my honest take on this ambitious, cross-cultural sequel. Unlike the first film which was purely a Punjabi/Himachali campus drama, Yaariyan 2 tries to do something different. It is technically a remake of the hit Malayalam film Bangalore Days (2014). For those who don’t know, Bangalore Days is a cult classic—the story of three cousins from Kerala who move to a metro city and navigate love, ambition, and illness.

The makers have "Bollywood-ized" it. They moved the setting from Kerala to Punjab, but kept the soul of the story intact. Three cousins: Laado (Divya Khosla Kumar), Bajwa (Meezaan), and Shikhar (Pearl V Puri) leave their small town for the big city.
